Uri Sellers was a bright and ambitious nineteen-year-old small town boy, who had just recently graduated from high school and begun his first year of college. He looked forward to what his next chapter in life had to offer and where it would lead him.
On April 20, 1997, Uri was tragically taken away from his friends and family while doing what he had done his entire life, being there for his friends
Friends, family and community members now honor Uri’s memory by holding an annual memorial fundraiser, awarding deserving seniors with scholarships each year and by giving back to the local communities.
About Us
The Uri Sellers Memorial Scholarship was started in 1997, one year after Uri graduated from PCM High School. Since 1997, the Uri Sellers Memorial Foundation has awarded a scholarship every year. For 25 years the memorial scholarship has been awarded and throughout the years there have been over 40 scholarships awarded to PCM High School Seniors.
The foundation was started with the idea behind to help high school students fulfill their dreams of attending college. The Foundation was established to help keep Uri’s memory alive, because he was an active member of his community and he would always lend a helping hand.
The Foundation diligently works to raise money to help PCM students attend college and to give to community projects that support the legacy left behind by Uri Sellers.
All proceeds go back to the community and fund the annual memorial scholarships. Since inception, the Uri Sellers Memorial Foundation has given donations to the Monroe Rec Park, the Prairie City Sports Complex, PCM Youth Football, PCM Youth Soccer, Boy’s State, Girl’s State, High School weight room, PCM Music Program, Athletic Boosters, Monroe and Prairie City libraries, Food Pantry, Monroe Bike Trail, Girls High School Basketball, Middle School and High School Speech and Drama programs Monroe Elementary PTA & Prairie City Elementary PTO to name a few. In addition to financial assistance many friends, family and community members volunteered to build the concession stand at the Prairie City Sports Complex.
The Uri Sellers Memorial Foundation appreciates all the help from within and outside the community. Without all the support and help we receive, the Foundation would not be where it is today. Everything from time to set-up, donations and collections, participation in the outings, and supporting the Foundation make our dream and Uri’s dream a reality. Our goal is to continue to grow as a Foundation and help PCM students and the communities fulfill their aspirations that Uri would have fully supported as well.
Working together to build stronger communities for a better tomorrow, by championing them through education and giving back.
